You know how it goes: Right before Horatio Caine puts on his sunglasses and throws off a corny one-liner as the The Who screams, the forensics team is looking at a blood splatter on the wall and determining that it was a gunshot wound from close range by a six-foot tall, left handed shooter who wore sandals and had a limp.

Far fetched? Maybe not. You’d be surprised at the amount of detail a simple blood spatter can reveal. The folks at Forensic Nursing have put together a guide to Blood Pattern Analysis for budding CSIs, so the next time you stumble across a crime scene you’ll be able to tell if the spatter is from a blunt force trauma with a baseball bat, or a wounded perp on the run.

Critically acclaimed author William Diehl was an extraordinarily gifted storyteller who enjoyed an unbroken string of best selling novels.

Born New York, 1924. Flew 29 bombing raids over Europe as a teenaged ball-turret gunner. Graduated from the University of Missouri, worked as investigative reporter for the Atlanta Constitution, managing editor of Atlanta Magazine, free-lance photographer for Life, Sports Illustrated and other national publications.

Following the success of Sharky's Machine, Diehl relocated to St. Simons Island, GA in the early 80's with his wife Virginia Gunn, an Atlanta television personality, where he lived for the next 15 years completing eight more novels including 27 aka THE HUNT, THAI HORSE, HOOLIGANS, CHAMELEON, PRIMAL FEAR, which also became a movie by the same name starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton, SHOW OF EVIL and EUREKA
